Soprano Faith Esham and saxophonist Paul Cohen will be performing Lori Laitman's "I Never Saw Another Butterfly" on November 1, 2008 at Weill Recital Hall in NYC, on W. 57th Street adjacent to Carnegie Hall. This song cycle sets the poetry of children who were killed in the Holocaust, and was featured in a documentary made by Yale graduate students Sylvia Rider (Institute of Sacred Music) and and Jeannine Oakes (Divinity School).

This performance begins at 8:30 pm with tickets priced at $30 for adults and $15 for students. Other pieces on the program are French works by Mozart, Duparc, Debussy (L'Enfant Prodigue) as well as Poulenc (La courte paille) and Rachmaninoff and pianist David Holkeboer will be the accompanist.

 

On November 21, 2008 at 7:30 pm, baritone Andrew Garland and pianist Donna Loewy will perform Lori Laitman's "Men with Small Heads"  at Weill Recital Hall. This cycle sets the poetry of American poet Thomas Lux, and the title song won "Best American Art Song" in the 2004 American Art Song Competition.
