An insightful comment from Joe, a finance executive:

"We are now so well connected to each other that it's creating chaos in our lives that we struggle to manage."

I agree. I see it when a business team creates a shared plan to depend on as the best pathway forward. Constant connection, interruption, and diversion become the norm. More time gets spent sorting out people's confusion than getting the job done. Even worse, some avoid the confusion and forge ahead in such a silo'd way that they unintentionally add to the chaos.

What's important is how leaders and profesionals respond to this new norm. The business world offers new systems and processes to learn, as though we're trees that need old branches lopping off, new limbs to grow, and constant trimming to weather storms. But the pace of change often outstrips our rate of learning, and we move toward a state of unfocused numbness.

There's a better approach--nourishing the roots of the tree as we go--specially the tap root at our inner spiritual core. Doing this as we work gives us a calm, confident, edge in times of confusion. We shift easily to see the bigger picture. We develop a deep certainty that we can master any situation. It inspires those around us. We lead with more humility and gratitude. We find respect and hope for those we see struggling to cope. We stand tall amidst the confusion.

Is it branches or roots for you today? The world says send more emails, go faster, and cram more in. We say practice a more intentional connection to your unique inner core and be the true leader.
