A common greeting--one that we have all heard and responded to countless times. "I'm good" we say, and then ask the obligatory "and how are you?"

We all take part in this social norm, an exchange of pleasantries, and think nothing of it. We are disconnected, but both parties understand what is required of them. There's some good in it after all, a superficial interaction with a fellow human that may warm us a little......And yet, how are you feeling, really?

I'm not suggesting that we should unload on our friendly greeter, who after all, is not asking because he/she really wants to know what is going on with us. I'm suggesting that we use this as an opportunity, a trigger, to think about how we really are. Pause afterwards. Take a moment to be present and feel. Watch and listen to yourself as an objective third person might. Observe your thoughts, listen to the tone of them and the words you use as your mind runs with chatter. What do you hear? Sadness, fear, anger, happiness? What is your body telling you? Is it tense and rigid with anger? Running with fear? Heavy with sadness and grief? Dancing with joy?

As members of ANE, we are on a continual treasure hunt. One of the treasures we're seeking is the emotional part of ourselves, found in our inner core. We don't have to do it perfectly; we need only be open, honest and willing to try. By focusing less on external events and more on revealing the power of our inner core, we will know the joy of being more calm, confident, and connected at work and in all aspects of your life. How do we do this?

Join us at 7:30 am on Tuesdayas we discuss some of the ways we can access our inner core.
