Where do we see the most public examples of prayer in the workplace? The Super Bowl is one of the most prominent illustrations of workplace prayer, with some players forming circles before and after the football game. In hospitals prayer is frequently present with family and clergy, but rarely publicly practiced by those working as Doctors or Nurses. Annual budget meetings and weekly operations meetings rarely have an agenda item for “Consultation with The Lord.” Quarterly earnings calls are not frequently provided with the Lord’s Prayer, yet many an investor is privately breaking out any Rosary available for a few Hail Mary(s) on a bad quarter.

So what are we to make of the type, timing, and outcome of a pregame or workplace prayer?  Is God to intervene and bring your company good fortunate, a win at the expense of your competition, doling out a loss?

Hard to believe that God is there to ensure that one team wins, another player breaks a leg, one employee has a heart attack, a critical sales person perishes in a plane crash, the greatest competition suddenly leaves your sales vertical, or that unexpected weather dramatically adds unseen value to your portfolio. The Reverend Robert Linders speaks frequently that “God provides minimal protection and maximum support.”

As a Leader, what are you asking God for day today? What successes AND failures do you attribute to God’s requested interventions? Or do you ask for God’s presence and insight in making sound decisions, responding to market changes, or addressing employee conflict?

Many ANE practitioners use the Prayer for Leadership Moments, both in times of clearly defined need and others use the Prayer to invite God’s presence throughout the day. So call in on Tuesday morning at 7:30 am or Wednesday night at 8:00 pm to discuss petitions for short-term gains or inviting God’s presence for long-term success?
