"Why did I agree to this breakfast meeting? And why is the commute so much more crowded at this earlier hour? And how did I manage to spill my drink on myself? I just had this cleaned! I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today – this day is ruined!”

Another scenario.
You’re talking to someone. A colleague. A friend. A partner. The conversation takes a turn, for the worse. Confusion sets in. “They just don’t get it.” Frustrated, you agree to talk about it later… tomorrow (you hope, at the earliest).

What if you could begin again?

While you cannot start the day again, the next minute, and the next moment, is well within your control.

What if you could intentionally reset yourself to find a new balance, A New Equilibrium?

I am a person of faith. My beliefs and my values are at my inner core. And this inner core is with me wherever I am, whether at work, at worship, or at play. This is what A New Equilibrium reminds me.

So I remember passages from the Hebrew Bible:

·         “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:18-19, ESV).

·         “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever” (Psalm 138:8, ESV).

And I remember the promises of Revelation:

·        “And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”” (Revelation 21:5, ESV).

So God is doing something new. Notice the phrase is “all things new.” It is not “all new things.” God takes the ordinary and transforms them into the extraordinary.

I don’t need to wait for a new day. I certainly do not need to make a New Year’s Resolution. I have a new moment, right now. There is a common purpose for me a work, worship and play. I am going to look for a “new thing” – a new moment – and find A New Equilibrium.

A New Equilibrium is doing a new thing, too. We’re curious to hear what you think of this weekly reflection. Let’s talk about it on the phone at 7:30 a.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) on Wednesday, August 6. Let’s begin again.
