We're running Windows Server 2008 core on our backup domain controller. I'm not completely convinced this is a good idea yet (even though I'm the one who suggested it). The lack of a UI seems to really hobble some functionality. Today I wanted to run windows update on that machine and had a difficult time figuring out how to do it. I would have thought there was an MMC plug-in to do it, but I couldn't find one. I searched using Google and found this interesting VBS script. Which did the trick.

For SureTech employees, the script is saved away in my user directory on the backup domain controller. You'd want to run this by typing:

cscript wupdate.vbs
