Wassail: An English Christmas Friday, December 9th, 2005 at 8:00pm John Street Church 44 John Street, New York City Come see the choir directed by Tom Cunningham JE '95, featuring Yalie members Mary Tobler, Prash Akkapeddi, Stephanie Hagan, Matt Borgmeyer, Evelyn Chu, Julia Heaton, Rebecca Hunter, Jessica Nevins, Niles Cole, Matt Laufer, Roland Tomford, Anthony Weiss The Manhattan Choral Ensemble will present an evening of English choral music for Christmas, featuring traditional English Christmas carols and works by Byrd, Tallis, and Warlock, as well as Britten’s Hymn to the Virgin. Encompassing music from the medieval period to the present, the performance will evoke the rich compositional history of England as well as that expression of the spirit of Christmas uniquely English. Celebrate this joyful season with a concert of music at times delicate, at times exuberant, but always exquisite. The setting is one of New York's most beautiful churches with a long history of connection to the English culture, the perfect place to enjoy a choral experience like no other this December. Admission: $15, $12 for students and seniors Directions: Located at 44 John Street, John Street United Methodist Church is 1.5 blocks east of Broadway between Nassau and William Streets. Subway: The closest subway stations are Broadway/Nassau (A & C lines) and Fulton Street (2,3,4,&5 lines). John Street is 1 block south of Fulton Street. Bus service: Take Bus #15 to John Street, Bus #6 to Fulton Street, or The Downtown Connection to South Street Seaport & Fulton Street. Driving: From New Jersey Turnpike #95: Follow the signs to Holland Tunnel, then to Canal Street. Travel south on Broadway to John Street and turn left to 44 John Street. On the street parking is limited, but free. Several pay parking lots are within walking distance of the church. We encourage all our visitors to use mass transit whenever possible.
