Bob called on the fourth day of his new job. "This place isn't what I expected, I guess I made a wrong decision," he complained.

"How can any of us really know the complete truth when we decide?" I countered.

"Bob, is your negative mental chitchat going crazy with things like 'Why didn't they tell me before I arrived?' or, 'How the hell am I expected to perform without proper resources?' and all that kind of stuff?"

"You are dead right," he said.

"These are resistances, Bob, bubbling up out of deeper fears that you will not succeed. They are all lies. You have to drop them fast, before they become reality and slow you down."

"How do I drop them, there's a constant barrage?" he asked.

"Use a spiritual affirmation. Stop yourself and focus on the positive you can achieve. Here is my favorite. Each time you feel the resistance, say to yourself:

THERE'S GOOD FOR ME HERE AND I OUGHT TO HAVE IT

Say it out loud if you can. Really give that 'ought' some punch. You'll feel the resistance dropping away."

Three weeks later:

"That affirmation transformed me as I got into my new job," reported Bob. "Before I joined, they had set up a huge conference of global customers. It was to take place three weeks into my job. I was to lead the whole thing. Three days after joining, I could see a complete disaster coming. The CEO was due to attend and we had only 15 people registered. That's what got the resistance going. My mind was telling me to get out, that I had made a huge mistake, that I would fail. I used the affirmation every day in the morning and at those times when I felt myself wavering. It made me so much stronger. We hit the phones, redesigned the program, and had 150 people fly in from throughout the world. I have this great picture of me speaking with the CEO. I'm on a great track now."

Any resistances in your mental chitchat this week? Drop 'em!
