Are you an inspiring ANE leader? Will a meeting with you this coming week lift someone's spirit so that he or she willingly steps out of the comfort zone toward becoming someone greater?
Terry Herring, President of Mission Pharmacal, speaking at ANE's recent dinner evening, Inspire Yourself--Inspire Others, said it this way:
"We tend to get caught up in ourselves, and to inspire others you have to be willing to move beyond yourself. But how many times have you thought: Yes! I would love to do something to grow, but...........and follow that with all the usual excuses. As a leader, you have to be willing to face these "yes, buts." You don't have to have a big team, but when you interact with people, you have to be willing to challenge yourself to go further and then reach out to challenge them to do the same."
You can't inspire others to great performance without first being inspired yourself. And your greatest source of inspiration lies at your essential core, your spiritual center. From that place all things are possible for you and those you lead.
Take time this week to inspire people you meet by first inspiring yourself. Try Terry's approach:
"When we nurture our spiritual core through devotion and connectivity with people, then we can be an inspired leader. We learn to pass through the test of the "yes, buts" and to help other people get through their "yes, buts". We do not get it right all the time, but we keep trying. We become more connected. Then, quoting Nelson Mandela from Invictus, we are the 'master of my fate and the captain of my soul'."
