Big organizational change (like a new boss, new owner, or even losing our job) can deplete our confidence and leave our spiritual fuel tank empty. What's an ANE leader to do?

Just as you can't run a marathon without training, you can't deal with major change unless you have built up your inner strength along the way. There's always a positive side to change, but our fears can get in the way. As professional leaders, we are taught that excellent leaders solve problems for themselves, that our own ideas and solutions are most important. When we go as far as seeing ourselves as "The Source", our humility evaporates, pride takes over, and we lose the important skills of listening, flexibility, and encouragement. Then, when something knocks us off balance, just when we need to be strong for those around us, we feel confused, resentful, even depressed.

This week, pay attention to not being "The Source". Listen more and appreciate other people's solutions. Celebrate other's results. And remember to give some thanks and recognition to your real source, no matter where you are.

And if you feel the pain of change this week, say to yourself:

"I choose to focus on better pathways coming toward me. The only person who can defeat me in this circumstance is me.  I am already strong enough."
