TO BE RESCHEDULED:

The Yale Alumni Association of Metropolitan New York (YAAMNY) is pleased to partner once again with PortSide New York, a Day of Service site, to host a family-friendly tour of the Mary Whalen tanker followed by happy hour at home/made wine garden grill in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

PortSide invites YAAMNY to Red Hook: Learn about the history of the tanker and its crew, catch some fabulous views of the city from the waterfront and enjoy some hot cider and treats. Afterwards, we will gather for pre-dinner drinks and appetizers at home/made wine garden grill, 293 Van Brunt Street (btwn Pioneer and King), Brooklyn, NY, http://www.homemadebklyn.com/index.html.(Please note that food/drink at home/made are not included in registration for ship tour).

PortSide NewYork breathes life into the relationship between landside communities and the maritime sector to the advantage of both, via several avenues, including an H2O arts program, reporting on port and waterfront issues and its chief ambassador: the Mary Whalen, a 170-foot retired coastal oil tanker. To see how PortSide takes advantage of this special asset, check out youtube pages: http://www.youtube.com/PortSideNewYork, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHQ4MwukoO4.

Where: Red Hook Marine Terminal, corner of Hamilton Avenue, Summit Street and Van Brunt Street, 70 Hamilton Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11231; government-issued photo ID required for adults due to Homeland Security regulations (e.g., driver's license, not a job ID); the group will be escorted from security gate to the tanker (about 6 blocks from the entrance); flat shoes required; dress warmly.
